Jaane Ye Raahein Ab Le Jayengi Kahaan….

“Tanha Dil” is one of my all time favourite songs. Its so meaningful yet catchy at the same time. I particularly love those two lines in it,
“Aankhon me sapne liye, ghar se hum chal to diye,
Jaane ye raahein ab le jayengi kahaan..”

Life isnt always straight. Twists, turns, changes are a part and parcel of life. Lets face it, that adds a lot of salt, spice, chaat (take your pick) to our lives. I myself am at a similiar such turn in my life, careerwise. Lets see what happens:D

Photography has some rules for sure, but its fun bending those rules at times. Afterall, as the saying goes, rules are meant to be broken.

Whilst jaywalking around the Banganga district in Walkeshwar, i came across these stone stairs leading out of Banganga, and after having taken some standard shots of the stairs, i decided to click at an angle, thus making the composition asymmetrical. Luckily around the time i was composing the shot, a local seemed to be coming my way, i waited till he arrived at just the right spot and captured the moment. The idea behind keeping the man in the frame was to show some kinda action in the frame, which otherwise would have looked very static. I have observed that none of my photographs have the human element, and i am trying my best to work on it.

The Ladder!

One of my attempts at Abstract Photography. I was bored on the hot summer afternoon and was just roaming around my ancestral home, where a lot of construction work was going on. There wasnt much of an oppurtunity to do photography around the house. I noticed this ladder placed along one of the walls, the workers had gone to take their afternoon siesta. Yeah, in the villages, an afternoon siesta is a must. There was nothing out of the world in the ladder, but when i saw it through this angle i noticed a definite shadow. Offlate i have become very sensitive to the angle of light and all that and try as much as i can to capture images that showcase the role of shadows. This shot gave me an idea to shoot a series of photographs with a Shadow Theme. Strange how one thing leads to another.

Deux Gouttes!!

Ah! The rains have finally Arrived in aamchi Mumbai. Rains are magical. They just add a new dimension to my creative thinking every year. How else would i explain to myself a sudden shine (on how to end a fiction piece i had started two years back) just when the rains started to pound the city. Anyways ill not get into that. Right now, let us enjoy the rains.

It was a lazy Sunday today. Woke up to the music of the rains and the howling wind. The atmosphere was perfect for reading a book. Satyajit Ray’s Indigo came to the rescue. A collection of mysterious short stories. So by the window, it was just me, Ray, steaming hot coffee and the rains!

I noticed these drops of water that had collected under the bars of the grill of my window. The drops if observed from up close were reflecting the building on the other side. Needless to say i quickly fetched my camera which had been lying unused since the last couple of weeks, thanks to my unearthly schedule. I got it in the Super Macro mode, but i noticed that capturing the reflection was outta the question as the drop was being constantly filled with water, from the sides and the film around the water was in constant rotation. And i wanted to capture that drop before it gathered enough weight to finally form into a sphere and release itself from the bar. The other drop was just about starting to form.

So finally i have kickstarted this years quota of Rain themed photographs. Many more to follow. till then.

Abandoned!

Was walking to the bazaar of my native place in the evening. Noticed this bright yellow Gajra lying amidst all the dry leaves. It looked very out of place, very detached. It was a contradictory situation, in the sense that the bright yellow did attract my attention, would attract anyone’s attention, but at the same time this is not where the Gajra was meant to be in the first place. It seemed like a commentary on one aspect of my life. Caused me to wait and compose the image. Then decided to desaturate the rest of frame, keeping just the out of place Gajra in focus. My feeble attempts at Abstract Photography:P
