Portraits 14: Waking up

An engineer turned journalist's story
The perfume sellers lining the Bhendi Bazaar – Mohammed Ali road stretch are a joy to photograph as not only is your sense of sight bombarded with such colourful displays but also the sense of smell reaches heavenly levels thanks to the magical fragrant potions hidden within those shops.
The original Perfume chacha that gave me a push to carry on this series.

Was walking around the Asakusa temple premises, when I came across this brother-sister duo engrossed in selecting just the right animal to add to their collection. It was funny to notice how those kids when presented with such a variety of toys, were behaving quite surprisingly like adults – holding each animal in their hand, checking if it had all its feet, comparing two animals, consulting each other and so on. Their parents were busy elsewhere, letting the toddlers make this important decision for themselves. I honestly don’t know what they ended up purchasing, as they weren’t so easy to please.

I generally do not shoot much fashion with permission while shooting street. But this blonde Japanese fellow on Shibuya was quite willing to pose and give me my ‘The Sartorialist’ kind of image. Of course i didn’t want to keep him waiting, so i just made a couple of photographs.
