Spiral staircases always take me back in time: games of hide and seek; horror stories of what lies at the end of the staircase and more often, they bring up a visual from the classic Robert Louis Stevenson book – ‘Kidnapped’, where a character is climbing the staircases and suddenly lightning strikes and shows the protagonist that there are no more stairs leading up staircase – it’s a trap. Spiral staircases just conjure up stories with nasty endings for me:P
